Getting a custom logo design online for your website could be very expensive. Not only that you have to pay the expensive design fees anywhere between several hundred to several thousand dollars upfront, but also you have no idea how your logo will turn out to be. However that’s changing quickly. Business logo design contest is now gaining popularities and offers a more affordable way of getting a custom logo design.

48hourslogo

48HoursLogo is an online logo contest website that I came across recently. The website boasts professional logo design for $79 and within 48 hours. The idea is quite simple.

1. You post your logo design requirement on the site and prepay your money to the website.
2. Logo designers will submit their logo designs based on your requirement. You can rank and comment on the designs to give feedbacks.
3. You pick a winning logo design and the designer gets paid.

All the contest and logo submission are open to view by the public on the website. I’m quite surprised by the quality of logos submitted for the price. Most of the logo contest on the site are priced around 100 dollars and each contest gets about 40 different designs submitted. So the logo clients do get a wide selection of designs to choose from.

I can see how such website really benefits the logo clients. But for the designers, they could spend hours designing, but if their logos are not chosen as the final winner, they don’t get paid anything. Certainly logo contest is not for every designer. However for new graphic designers, this is will be a good place to sharpen your design skills and make some extra cash.

How is it possible to create a logo in 48 hours. Designing a logo takes days of research, trial and error, and feedback. I would hope designers do not take part in this.

Remove the research, trail and error and feedback and it can be designed in less than 15 mins. Type in the company chose a font, put a clip art image on, add color and your done. One business person that doesn’t understand the importance of design is happy. All but one “designer” is sad.

Much more than one “designer” is sad. These types of things, while prevalent, are not endorsed by professional design organizations which have memberships numbering in the tens of thousands.

The reason is it destroys a process that benefits a client – the design process. Taking out the very things you mention (research, trial and error, feedback) and you end up with a generic image that might fit that business – or any other business.

And that’s the risk this entails for the business. The risk of being generic and lost in a flood of competition in order to get something fast and cheap.

    Crappy.

I know not everyone likes spec works. But its the created by the basic rules of supply and demand — free market economy.

I have seen similar ones and better ones. Normally which last longer than 48 hours, I don’t think 48 hours is enough. However, the price they are paying is less than others, so might be worth the money.

Thanks you for information.I will go to test it later.

Crap like this destroys the market…

I have to agree with Brian Mays, without research, feedback and testing how can you get a custom logo designed for YOUR business?

It may be custom, and the term “designed” can be loosely applied, but it can never be for a particular business and falls into the category of generic design.
